Problem solving and multimedia encyclopaedias and electronic books

Problem solving software is associated with cognitivist learning theory as the students are clearly taught specific cognitive strategies.
In this program the computer presents complex problem in which the student improves the skill of problem solving whereby it reduces the problem of rote memorization. It promotes students think logically, reason things out and patterns recognition strategies. As the students interact with these problems, they slowly start to think from simple to complex. This problem solving software is similar to simulation software but the difference is problem solving software is to teach problem solving strategies where as simulation attempt to model real life situation.

Integration with the lessons

problem solving is designed to promote high order thinking. These are some of the suggestions on how to use this type of software effectively:
1.Pre-plan the activities before the students use the program.
2. Provide learning goals and work schedule.
3. Allow students to explore and interact.
4. Demonstrate the step to solve problem.
5. Let student to use in pair or group.
6. Stress more on thinking process.
7. Plan an activity to do.
8. Let the student to do research by searching information that is in the software.
9. Conduct follow-up presentation.

Multimedia encyclopedia and electronic books

Multimedia encyclopedia store full text, still images, animation, audio and video. Students can get access to any type of information and can download vast content and relevant data. Electronic books present textual information for reading like sounds, pictures and animations. It is also used as a tutor to learn a reading, spelling and word skills.

Integration with lessons
1. Teacher might use varieties of ways to search information.
2. Teacher preparation is must because this software usually sits passively.
3. Teacher can use software for whole classroom presentation to increase effectiveness of their class decision.
 4. Teacher have to give clear question that student can answer with a software.(both high level and low level question)

5. Careful planning required.
6. Teacher can assign topics in groups and let students search information stored in software.
